About Human Umbilical Cord Tissue Mesenchymal Stem Cell (HUCT-MSC) Therapy
The Center for Functional Medicine & Wellbeing utilizes cord-derived mesenchymal stem cells. They are known as HUCT (human umbilical cord tissue) stem cells.
Among many other things, mesenchymal stem cells from the umbilical cord tissue are known to have three very important properties:
- Help reduce inflammation
- Modulate the immune system and
- Secrete factors that helps tissue to regenerate
Because HUCT stem cells are less mature than other cells, the body’s immune system is unable to recognize them as foreign and therefore they are not rejected. Thousands of patients have been treated with umbilical cord stem cells and there has never been a single instance rejection. HUCT stem cells also proliferate more efficiently than “older” cells, such as those found in the bone marrow and therefore, they are considered to be more potent.
What are mesenchymal cells?
In scientific terms, they are multipotent stromal cells that can differentiate into a variety of cell types, including cartilage, bone, and muscle. Multipotent implies “unlimited potential” and they are progenitor cells, so they have gene activation potential to differentiate into discrete cell types, but divide a limited number of times. This is naturally occuring built-in safety to prevent undesired cell division.
Umbilical cord stem cells reside in the umbilical cords from healthy newborn babies and healthy mothers. HUCT stem cells, like all post-natal cells, are categorized as “adult” stem cells. The umbilical cord tissue is donated by pre-screened healthy mothers and healthy babies in the United States. We abide by all of the most stringent FDA and medical guidelines. Your safety, results and comfort are our top concern. The cells are rigorously tested and screened under National Institutes of Health (NIH), FDA, American Association of Tissue Banks (AATB) and American Association of Blood Banks (AABB) guidelines.
We selected HUCT-MSC stem cell therapy for a number of reasons:

How do they work?

They are the building blocks of all of the tissue and organs in the human body. In other words, they give your body a boost of fresh, very young stem cells to help with regeneration. Our stem cells age with us and we lose a significant percentage over time. That’s why at about age 35, we can’t recover like we used to.
