With Valentine’s Day approaching, it’s important to not only show the significant other in your life how much you care for them, but also show yourself some self-care. The millennial generation in particular are keeping the self-care trend alive, reportedly making more personal improvement commitments than any generation that came before them.
According to a Pew Research Center study, millennials spend twice as much as the baby boomer generation on self-care essentials like workout regimens, diet supplements/plans, therapy and even apps that focus on personal care. Particularly following during the last presidential election, Google searches for the term “self-care” reached a five-year high, further highlighting this trend is here to stay.
Whether you’re a part of the millennial generation or not, putting your health and well being at the top of your priority list is something we should all make time for. Keeping this in mind, our health and wellness experts at the Center for Wellbeing have rounded up our top five favorite self-care tips to make a part of your daily routine, just in time to show yourself some love on Valentine’s Day
- Drink Water
Did you know that you should drink 30% percent of your body weight in ounces of water? Staying hydrated will positively affect a number of areas in your body including cardiovascular health, kidneys, muscles and joints, so be sure to have a water bottle handy at all times.
- Exercise Regularly
The number one reason why people say they do not work out regularly is time; however, keeping your work out goals realistic will help you maintain a more consistent workout regimen. Whether it’s hitting the gym or taking a stroll during your lunch hour, be sure to get at least 30 minutes of movement each day.
- Show your Muscles Love
Massage therapy is so much more than just a relaxing day at the spa. Regularly scheduled massage sessions can boost energy levels, reduce pain, improve circulation and even lower your blood pressure.
- Keep your Skin Looking and Feeling Fresh
To drive impurities out of your skin, facials are a common way to detoxify and rejuvenate skin to look and feel its best. New facial treatments like micro needling even help to reduce skin elasticity, scarring and uneven skin tone. We now offer micro needling at the Center for Wellbeing!
