Functional Medicine
Functional Medicine
If you would prefer to get to the root cause of your symptoms rather than masking them with medications, a functional medicine approach may be for you.
What is Functional Medicine?
The functional medicine model is an individualized, patient-centered, science-based approach that empowers patients and practitioners to work together to address the underlying causes of disease and promote optimal wellness. It requires a detailed understanding of each patient’s genetic, biochemical, and lifestyle factors and leverages that data to direct personalized treatment plans that lead to improved patient outcomes.
By addressing root cause, rather than symptoms, practitioners become oriented to identifying the complexity of disease. They may find one condition has many different causes and, likewise, one cause may result in many different conditions. As a result, functional medicine treatment targets the specific manifestations of disease in each individual.
Our practitioners provide a comprehensive functional metabolic assessment that allows us to assess areas of dysregulation before it becomes a disease process. If there is an existing diagnosis, we can dive deeper into the lab results of your blood work and begin to connect the dots further to provide therapeutic recommendations that will best support you.
The labs from your blood work include indicators for nutrient deficiencies, signs of leaky gut, gallbladder, and liver congestion or dysregulation, along with thyroid, electrolyte imbalances, and cardiac inflammatory markers.
In addition, the Adrenocortex Stress Profile (cortisol & DHEA levels) saliva sample collection will help you understand your adrenal hormones levels. If imbalances in adrenal hormone levels are detected, we can provide clinical intervention with targeted therapeutic treatments such as nutrient support and/or adaptogens, stress management and lifestyle. Balancing your stress hormones can dramatically improve your overall health, assist with weight loss, improve GI symptoms, aid in mood stabilization and reduce overall inflammation and chronic pain.
