Platelet-rich Plasma (PRP)
Platelet-rich Plasma (PRP) PRP is concentrated platelet-rich plasma protein derived from whole blood, and then centrifuged to remove red blood cells. It has a higher concentration of growth factors than whole blood, and is used to stimulate healing. As a concentrated source of blood plasma and autologous conditioned plasma, PRP can promote healing of soft tissue and joints. For preparation of PRP, platelets are concentrated to 3–5 times physiological levels, then the concentrate is injected into the tissue where healing is needed.
- Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) comes from each patient’s own blood.
- PRP is a concentrated source of growth factors and cellular signaling elements that play a substantial role in the biology of healing.
- Studies show that PRP therapy may improve healing in many tissues.
